For those in CA with a teen driver on a learner’s permit (not yet licensed), did your insurance charge extra for coverage?
In California, your credit score doesn’t affect the rates you get. The state doesn’t let companies use it to decide on rates.
In California, having a teen with a learner’s permit on your insurance usually won’t cause a direct increase for that permit specifically. It’s more likely they’ll add the teen driver to your policy, which can increase the premium overall. Insurance companies see new drivers as a higher risk. So, adding your teen (even with a permit) might bump up the cost since they’ll be considered a new driver on the policy. However, the good news is the increase might not be huge compared to when they actually get their license
If you are yet to be licensed, the law clearly states that it will be the responsibility of your parent or guardian to pay for your car insurance
