Does my Personal Auto insurance cover business use?

Is my personal auto insurance policy sufficient to cover business-related driving, or do I require additional coverage?

She is attempting to ascertain whether you are covered by insurance for any vehicle you drive. This is her attempt to defend not having company-paid insurance on the work vans. Your rates may increase and you may be responsible for the deductible and any claims against you that exceed your insurance limits if you are driving and are involved in an accident and the employer does not have insurance.

Under no circumstances should you consent to drive a corporate car without obtaining verification that all employees are covered by the company.

Your personal insurance generally won’t cover a business vehicle . You can purchase commercial car insurance to ensure your vehicle is protected during business trips or day-to-day non-personal use.

In almost all cases, personal auto insurance won’t cover business use of your vehicle.
Your regular car insurance is for personal errands, not business! Deliveries, client meetings, and anything work-related are risky for insurance companies and likely not covered. Get commercial insurance if you use your car for business to avoid being on the hook for any accidents. Talk to your insurance company if unsure! Better safe than sorry.

@Bumper. I agree with you. Personal auto insurance typically does not cover business use. If an accident occurs while using your vehicle for work purposes, personal policies won’t cover the costs. To ensure coverage for business-related incidents, commercial auto insurance is necessary, covering expenses like repairs, medical bills, legal fees, and more.

You need to start by actually reading your insurance policy and finding out if they view this as business use or personal use.

If they determine that you are not in compliance with your policy because they deemed it business use and not personal use, your vehicle won’t be covered in the event you’re at fault OR the person who hit you doesn’t have insurance.

If someone else hits you and they have insurance, well, it doesn’t matter because their insurance is the one that will cover you.
