Should I Involve Insurance After an Accident?

Hi folks, I’m seeking advice on whether to involve my insurance company after a recent car accident. This is what happened:

The driver in front of me said the vehicle in front of them stopped to make a last-minute left turn with a last-minute signal into their home driveway. Their driveway is on the opposite lane, which has a double yellow line. The street has two lanes and no middle lane to make a left turn, so any driver has to stop traffic to make a left turn. The driver I hit even stated they would understand if the vehicle making the left did so in an area where the double yellow breaks off and the driver can legally make a left, but the driver took a chance last minute to slow down and cross the double yellow, probably since no cars were coming. There was minimal damage to his car, which I could pay out of pocket, but mine is done for.

Do you think it’s worth mentioning to my insurance? Personally, I’d rather avoid involving insurance to prevent a higher premium, but I need the money I do have to purchase a new car.

If your accident involved another person, it’s important to contact your insurance company right away. You never know if they might claim injuries, and any delay on your part could hinder your insurance from defending you properly. Keep in mind that accident victims often face higher premiums.

Since your car is severely damaged, you’ll likely need insurance assistance to cover repairs or replacements.
