What Should I Do After Getting a Police Report for a Car Incident?

After my car accident a few weeks ago, I’ve encountered issues accessing my police report from the website the officer provided (crashdocs.org). It appears that many scammers have obtained access to it, as I’ve been bombarded with scam calls and mail from law firms offering representation. How are these individuals obtaining the police report? Additionally, my insurance company, Progressive, initially informed me that the report wouldn’t be available for 3 weeks, but shortly after, I received it in the mail from a law firm seeking to represent me. When I informed my adjuster about having the report, he quickly mentioned that he already had it too, which I found disappointing. It seems he might have intended to make me wait for the report. Where are these people obtaining the report from when I’m unable to access my own police report from my accident?

An individual working within the department likely leaked it to nearby lawyers, who are known as ambulance chasers. This practice has been ongoing for more than 20 years.

. Take pictures, exchange info, don’t admit fault, get witness info, etc.

No injuries and minimal damage? Settle it between drivers.

Injuries and significant damage? Notify insurance. If the damage is excessive (>$1500?) I believe you have to report it to DMV.

I got into a similar accident. I called 911 and dispatch told me police were not necessary.

Btw Never say “sorry.” Especially if you’re not at fault.
