Does anyone know of any affordable full-coverage insurance for a resident of Texas who is an unauthorized immigrant?
I can’t seem to figure out what’s going on with my premiums. They all seem to be around the same amount no matter where I shop. For the record, I have had zero accidents or violations in over 10 years. I did have a brief lapse in coverage last year, but I corrected it quickly, so it shouldn’t have raised my rates this drastically.
I had a 2020 F150 that I bought new in 2019, with full coverage, $500 deductibles, and uninsured motorist protection for $177/month.
I just traded down to a 2020 Terrain to cut my monthly payment in half, and now I’m being quoted almost $345/month for the same coverage. This car is worth half of what the F150 was.
What gives? This is getting ridiculous. For reference, I’m in the DFW area.
Which is the cheapest—for me, for Joe down the block, for Mary across town, or Bob across the state? All of the stuff is irrelevant. Which company is going to be the cheapest for you is the only thing that counts. Obtaining quotations from other companies is the only way to find out such information. That is not something we can accomplish for you.
Speak with a local independent agency to see what they can uncover.
They can’t guarantee that your insurance will be inexpensive, but they should be able to search around for the best deal by getting quotes from several providers for your coverage.
Unfortunately, obtaining affordable full-coverage car insurance for unauthorized immigrants in Texas can be very challenging. Here are a few reasons why:
- Driver’s Licenses: In most cases, obtaining a driver’s license requires legal residency status. Without a driver’s license, traditional car insurance companies may be unable to provide coverage.
- Limited Options: While some states offer alternative driving permits for undocumented immigrants, these permits often don’t translate to eligibility for full-coverage car insurance with major providers.
Alternative Options to Consider:
- Limited Liability Insurance: If you can obtain a driver’s license through alternative means (check with your local DMV), you might qualify for limited liability insurance. This type of coverage includes basic liability (damage or injury caused to others) but does not cover your own vehicle.
- Non-Standard Insurance Companies: These companies cater to high-risk drivers, including undocumented immigrants. However, premiums tend to be significantly higher than standard coverage.
- Financial Responsibility Requirements: Texas requires drivers to meet financial responsibility requirements in case of an accident. Explore options like self-insurance or a surety bond to meet these requirements.
