I wanted to purchase insurance for the car I bought. When I contacted Amax, they offered me a six-month contract for $600. However, a friend advised me to cancel the contract because of its high cost. When I tried to cancel, Amax still charged me $200, even though I hadn’t completed the paperwork to join the plan. They said that Commonwealth Insurance would handle the refund processing. Today, I received a refund check, but it was $200 less than what I had paid. Is it possible for me to get back some of the money?
You can’t get the money back.
Amax failed to disclose that they do charge a fee when you cancel it.
In some states you can be charged a short rate penalty for canceling mid-term. The penalty is highest at policy inception.
This is likely what’s happened
