Geico Won't Send My Documents

I filed a glass claim for a rental car. I don’t own a car but have rental insurance with $0 deductible glass coverage. Geico won’t send me the documents explaining my coverage, and both the agent and their supervisor refuse to provide records of their communication with the rental company. My claim hasn’t been updated either. When I called the rental company, they said they haven’t heard from Geico about my claim and can only fax them, but the agent didn’t give me a fax number for glass claims. I have several emails showing my requests and the unprofessional behavior of the agent and supervisor. What should I do?

I don’t think they’re required to share their communications with the car company.

When you say “agent,” are you referring to the adjuster? The agent is the person who sold you the policy (if you used one), while the adjuster is the one managing your claim.

For the policy documents, contact their general customer service and follow the prompts for policy-related questions. Request a copy of your entire policy, including the declarations page, policy documents with policy language, and all endorsements.

Stay on the line until they email it to you, so you can confirm you’ve received everything you need.

Has the rental company already repaired or replaced the glass?

Thanks. It seems like the rental company went ahead and replaced the glass. I’m concerned that since my adjuster and their supervisor have been slow to respond, the rental company might try to claim a significant loss of use. However, the car was still fully drivable, with just a large crack in the windshield that would have only taken a couple of hours to repair and set.

If the glass has already been repaired, there shouldn’t be any loss of use. They also have a responsibility to mitigate their damages and can’t just accumulate loss of use by choosing not to proceed with the repair.

They claimed two days of loss of use, but my insurance hasn’t responded to their bill or given me any updates.

I don’t think Geico’s non-owner insurance includes comprehensive and collision coverage. Liability coverage doesn’t have a deductible, which is why the rental company is going to pursue Geico for the repair costs. Are you sure you have a glass endorsement without comprehensive coverage? A $0 glass deductible would typically be part of comprehensive coverage. Check your declaration page; it should list all your coverages.

Comprehensive and collision coverage are only available in a limited number of states for NNOs. It’s generally not provided automatically and must be requested.

The declaration page I received today confirms that my policy includes both comprehensive and collision coverage. I had previously updated my insurance to add glass coverage, which resulted in a higher premium. Geico has also confirmed that I have a $0 deductible for glass coverage with this claim.

I’m having trouble understanding your policy and how comprehensive and collision coverage rates are determined for a non-owner policy. It seems that the rental car type, whether an Altima or a Rolls Royce, doesn’t affect the premium. Nonetheless, it’s crucial to ensure that the policy doesn’t lapse.
