I’ve decided to move on from USAA auto insurance. Last year, when I got quotes for adding new teen drivers, I was shocked. I knew it would be more expensive, but not four times my current rate—that felt like a disrespectful quote. I called a few times and had my kids take defensive driving classes while they’re away at college, hoping for a better deal. Instead, the quote went up to over $6000 for four drivers, even though I haven’t made a claim in 28 years.
I should have switched sooner, but I got several quotes from different companies and chose one with a good track record and better coverage for $3800, compared to USAA’s $6000+ quote. It starts next week. What’s the best way to cancel my USAA policy? Should I call on the day the new one starts? Can I do it online? I still have banking and other products with them, at least for now.
To get out of it, just call them. They will ask about your new strategy and offer to go over the old one. That being said, I think you should be ready with a new policy with a different company.
I hear you completely! USAA’s high quote for adding your teens is frustrating. Here’s how to handle canceling your auto insurance. I have been there before
USAA doesn’t allow online policy cancellations, so you’ll need to call their customer service department at 1-800-531-USAA (8722).
Hello, Mason. Simply cease paying the policy, and they will cancel it for you. Arrange another policy first, although it’s easier without any explanation.
