How to Provide Proof of Previous Insurance to Progressive?

Hey everyone,

I recently got a quote from Progressive for auto insurance and went through the pre-binding verification process without any issues. However, now they’re asking me again for proof of previous insurance, which I already sent in before my quote was approved. I sent the proof last week and haven’t heard back from them yet.

I’m starting to worry because they’re asking for proof of insurance from the past six months, but I was only with my previous insurer for four months. After my car was totaled, I turned in my plates and didn’t have insurance for about a month and a half before joining my previous company. So, it looks like there was a lapse in coverage on my part. I should have gotten non-driver’s coverage during that period, but I didn’t think of it.

Do you think they might cancel my policy? Or could they increase my rates (which I’m kind of expecting)? Has anyone been through a situation like this?

It really depends. Since they gave you several opportunities to disclose the lapse, they might decide not to proceed with binding your policy. If they do, expect a significant increase in your rates.

You can check out some insurance forums where people often discuss how their rates skyrocketed due to a lapse in coverage.

Do you think it’s better to give Progressive a call and explain my situation, or should I wait to hear back from them?
