Will my rate go up with Metromile Insurance if I file a claim for car damage caused by an unknown person in a parking lot?

I have Metromile car insurance. Someone hit my 2018 Volt near the rear fender on the passenger side in a parking lot. Metromile said if I file a claim, I’ll lose my no-claim discount at the next renewal in September 2024 and my rate might go up. The claim will be considered collision damage with a $250 deductible. What should I expect?

If you can identify the vehicle that struck your automobile (by video footage), your rate should not rise.

Assess the situation: how much will it cost you if you pay out of pocket? If the repair costs a few hundred dollars, pay for it yourself. If the repair is expensive, such as $2,000, file a claim with Metromile. As for a rate rise, I’m not sure how much it will be, but all insurance companies have been raising their premiums across the board owing to inflation, increased repair costs, and insane people suing for the craziest reasons like a fender collision.

You may expect exactly what the representative stated. Your rate will very definitely increase.
