So, I’ve been searching for the cheapest car insurance in New Mexico, and I came across USAA offering $22 a month for minimum coverage and $105 for full coverage. Seems pretty solid, but are there better options out there? I’m curious if anyone else has found good deals or alternatives.
Yeah, USAA is great if you qualify, but I’ve had a decent experience with Central Insurance. They quoted me $23 for minimum coverage, which isn’t bad.

Wait, when you say ‘if you qualify,’ what does that mean? I thought anyone could apply for USAA.
@Quin
Oh no, USAA is actually only for military members, veterans, and their families. If you’re not connected to the military, then you won’t be able to get it.

Got it, thanks. Guess I’m out of luck with USAA then. Central Insurance might be my next option. Is their customer service any good?
@Quin
They’re decent. I haven’t had any big issues so far, but I haven’t had to file a claim yet. I’ve heard mixed reviews from others, though. Maybe give them a try and see how it goes?
I got Progressive at $181 a month after a DUI. It was hard finding anything cheaper than that. Still feels kinda high though.

Yeah, DUI rates always bump up the costs. You could try switching after a year. Some companies lower rates if you stay clean for a while.
@Jesse
That’s a good point. I’ll see if my rate drops after a year of no incidents. Maybe I’ll give it another shot then.

I did something similar and ended up saving a bit after switching. Just gotta keep an eye on the renewal terms.
Geico quoted me $128 for full coverage, which is actually lower than I expected. Does anyone have experience with them in New Mexico?

Geico’s pretty decent for the price, but I had a few issues with their customer service. How’s your experience been so far?
@Skyler
It’s been fine for me. Haven’t really had to deal with them much, though. I just hope my rates don’t spike next year.

That’s always the worry, right? These companies seem to love raising rates after the first year. Let’s hope Geico doesn’t pull that trick.
@Skyler
Exactly. I’ll keep an eye on it and probably shop around again before renewing. No harm in checking, right?
I’ve heard that using private Wi-Fi instead of public can sometimes get you lower rates when you apply online. Anyone know if that’s true?

Not sure about that one. I think the rates are more based on your driving history and credit score than what Wi-Fi you use to apply.
@Jael
Yeah, that makes sense. I was wondering if it was some sort of weird hack or trick to get cheaper quotes. Probably just one of those myths floating around.

Definitely sounds like one of those myths. But hey, worth asking, right? Always good to double-check.
Anyone here with bad credit find a good rate? USAA quoted me $189 a month for full coverage, but it feels like I’m paying extra because of my credit score.
